2009 MSCGP Announcement of Opportunity: The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (Association) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) work cooperatively together to manage the Multistate Conservation Grant Program (MSCGP). The USFWS ultimately awards and manages grants, however, the Association administers the grant application process, providing oversight, coordination, and guidance for the MSCGP as established by the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Programs Improvement Act of 2000 (Pub. L. 106-408). The MSCGP provides $6 million annually for sport fish and wildlife projects that benefit the state fish and wildlife agencies. State agencies and non-governmental organizations are eligible for grants. Projects must benefit sport fish, wild birds, and/or wild mammals; and must benefit at least 26 states, a majority of states in a USFWS region, or Regional Associations. Each year at the end of March the Association's National Grants Committee selects National Conservation Needs (NCNs) that are considered high priority needs by state fish and wildlife agencies. Letters of Intent (LOI) which propose a conservation project that addresses at least one NCN must be submitted by May 2, 2008. If a LOI is accepted by the National Grants Committee, prospective grantees must submit the required federal forms (SF424 and SF424a) to compete nationally for a grant award. Grants are awarded on a calendar-year basis for one, two or three years.
