2015 Sea Grant - NMFS “On Assignment” Exchange Program: The Sea Grant - National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) “On Assignment” Program (Exchange Program) is intended to expand the partnership between NMFS and Sea Grant and improve the services each provides to stakeholders. NMFS and Sea Grant are better able to leverage strengths of one another through the Exchange Program.
The Exchange Program is designed to award funds for personnel exchanges or assignments between Sea Grant programs and a NMFS Science Center, Regional Office, or Laboratory (Lab). The duration of such an assignment can range between one and twelve months. Duties and locations should be proposed by the participant and approved by the Directors of the partnering Sea Grant program and partnering NMFS Science Center, Regional Office, or Lab.
Up to $200,000 may be available for Sea Grant outreach (extension, communications, or education) professionals from Sea Grant programs. Funding for the Exchange Program is for travel support and project-related costs, not for salary and fringe benefits. Similar funding may be available for NMFS employees selected to participate in the Exchange Program through a separate selection process.
