Grant Description
CDCs Procurement and Grants Office has published a funding opportunity announcement entitled, "Addressing Asthma from a Public Health Perspective." $6,825,000 [this amount is an estimate, and subject to the availability of funds] will be available in fiscal year 2007 to fund up to 18 awards. The purpose of the program is to provide the impetus to further develop program capacity to address asthma from a public health perspective to bring about: (1) a focus on asthma-related activity within the state; (2) an increased understanding of asthma-related data and its application to program planning through development of an ongoing surveillance system; (3) an increased recognition, within the public health structure of a state, of the potential to use a public health approach to reduce the burden of asthma; (4) linkages of the state to many agencies and organizations addressing asthma in the population; and (5) implementation of interventions to achieve positive health impacts, such as reducing the number of deaths, hospitalizations, emergency department visits, school or work days missed, and limitations on activity due to asthma. For complete program details, please see the full announcement on the CDC website at http://www.cdc.gov/od/pgo/funding/EH07-702.htm. The estimated funding date is August 31, 2007.
