Advanced Air Transport Technology (AATT1) Project: Amendment 3 to the NASA ARMD Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2016 NRA has been posted on the NSPIRES site. This release seeks to stimulate the formulation of a conceptual design of an advanced single-aisle-class commercial transport concept with expected entry into service (EIS) in the Mid-Term time frame (EIS in 2035 or earlier). This solicitation specifically targets designs where in addition to secondary systems such as flight controls, wing de-icing, etc., a significant amount of electrical power is used for aircraft propulsion. The design concept must meet the operational requirements of a conventional Boeing 737/Airbus A320, 154 passenger class, single-aisle twin-turbofan configuration, and perform better on the aircraft-level metrics of mission energy use, life cycle carbon, emissions, and noise. Electrified aircraft propulsion using full or partial turboelectric or full or partial hybrid-electric configurations are sought. NASA encourages proposers to put together their best teams in complementary partnerships with industries, small businesses, and universities. NOIs are due October 14, 2016 and proposals are due November 28, 2016.
