Aging Research Dissertation Awards to Increase Diversity (R36): -Purpose. The National Institute on Aging (NIA) announces the reissuance of a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) that provides dissertation awards (R36) in all areas of research within NIA's mandate to increase diversity of the research workforce on research on aging and aging-related health conditions. These awards are available to qualified Predoctoral students in accredited research doctoral programs in the United States (including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories or possessions). -Mechanism of Support. This funding opportunity will use the Dissertation Award R36 grant mechanism -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. The NIA expects to award $250,000 to $300,000 annually beginning in Fiscal Year 2009 to support up to 5 dissertation awards.
