Airway Smooth Muscle Function and Targeted Therapeutics in Human Asthma (R01): -Purpose. The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) , issued by the NHLBI, NIH, is to solicit Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to investigate the complex role of airway smooth muscle (ASM) functions in the development of human asthma and identify novel therapeutic targets. -Mechanism of Support. The NHLBI intends to commit approximately $4.2 million in total costs in FY2009, and up to $16.8 million over 4 years, to fund 8 grants under this FOA.
