Ancillary Studies to Major Ongoing Clinical Research Studies to Advance Areas of Scientific Interest within the Mission of the NIDDK (R01): Purpose. This Funding Opportunity (FOA) encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications from qualified investigators to conduct ancillary studies to major ongoing clinical research studies, including clinical trials, epidemiological studies and disease databases supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Major studies include multi-center investigations, national databases and Phase 3 clinical trials. Examples of NIDDK-supported major clinical research studies eligible for ancillary studies may be found at http://www2.niddk.nih.gov/Research/ClinicalResearch/AncillaryStudies/ . This FOA also encourages grant applications for ancillary studies utilizing major clinical research studies supported by other Institutes and Centers of the National Institutes of Health, other government agencies and the private sector. However, the proposed ancillary study must be designed to advance the scientific research mission of the NIDDK by focusing on diseases and areas of interest of the Institute.
