Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Infrastructure Development Awards: This program guidance announcement solicits applications for a two-year project period for AHEC Infrastructure Development awards and AHEC Point of Service Maintenance and Enhancement awards, as authorized by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, Public Law 111-148, which amended Title VII, Section 751, of the Public Health Service Act. The AHEC programs consist of interdisciplinary, community-based training programs wherein academic and community-based leaders work to improve the distribution, diversity, supply, and quality of health care personnel, particularly primary care personnel in the health care services delivery system and more specifically in delivery sites in rural and other underserved areas. Successful applicants will be awarded cooperative agreements to establish and advance state-wide or multi-county AHEC programs.

Entities eligible to apply for AHEC Infrastructure Development awards (formerly referred to as Basic AHEC Program awards) are public or private nonprofit accredited schools of allopathic medicine and osteopathic medicine and incorporated consortia made up of such schools, or the parent institutions of such schools. In States and Territories in which no AHEC program is in operation, an accredited school of nursing is an eligible applicant.
