Grant Description: The OFCVT Fuel Technology Team has the followinggoals:?By 2007, identify fuel formulations optimized for use in 2007-2010technologydiesel engines that incorporate use of non-petroleum-based blendingcomponentswith the potential to achieve at least a 5 percent replacement of petroleumfuels.?By 2010, identify fuel formulations optimized for use in advancedcombustionengines (2010-2020) providing high efficiency and very low emissions, andvalidate that at least 5 percent replacement of petroleum fuels could beachieved in the following decade.To this end, proposals are sought that address the following specific areasofinterest (sub-topics):4.1) Fuel Formulations to Enable Advanced Combustion: Investigation anddevelopment of concepts for the pre-treatment of gasoline or diesel typefuelsand/or fuel blends for use in engines of the post 2010 timeframe.Pre-treatmentconcepts for consideration must be feasible for use on board light andheavyduty vehicles. The pre-treatment would have the end result of modifying thefuel to enable extending the range and control of advanced combustionregimesincluding low temperature combustion.4.2) Fuel Formulations to Enable Emissions Control: Investigation anddevelopment of concepts for the pre-treatment of diesel fuels and/or fuelblends for use in engines of the 2007-2010 timeframe. Pre-treatmentconceptsfor consideration must be feasible for use on board light and heavy dutyvehicles. The pre-treatment would have the end result of modifying the fueltoenable emissions control devices to meet useful life durabilityrequirementsfor light and heavy duty vehicles.
