Avian Health and Disease surveillance and monitoring support: The Service has established the Avian Health and Disease Program to conduct work in avian health and disease surveillance, response, and management. The program was created to break the cycle of short-term, reactionary approaches to one disease emergency at a time by providing a stable, long-term, prepared, and proactive resource. The objectives of the program are to conduct health and disease surveillance of wild bird populations to: 1. Ensure disease preparedness and prevention 2. Identify existing and emerging avian health and disease risks 3. Establish avian health baselines 4. Develop, guide, and implement appropriate and effective management actions This purpose of this funding is to provide resources to our partners to assist us in meeting these objectives.
