BLM-AK CESU Community Knowledge and Research Relating to Arctic Wildfires: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as part of Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) Wildfires Implementation Team are looking into an exploration of local and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) on wildfires in Arctic tundra ecosystems and assessment of local communities research needs pertaining to Arctic wildfires. IARPC is required by the Arctic Research and Policy Act of 1984 to, among other things, survey Arctic research conducted by Federal, State, and local agencies, universities, and other public and private institutions to help determine priorities for future Arctic research, including natural resources and materials, physical and biological sciences, and social and behavioral sciences. The IARPC Wildfires Implementation Team consists of representatives from several Federal Agencies including the BLM. The team will draw on the expertise of the Alaska Fire Science Consortium (AFSC) and the University mentoring an individual to address several team goals.
