BLM-AK GFO Resource Intern Opportunity: This project is a partnership between BLM Alaska and an organization that can provide interns to assist BLM in completing projects related to natural resource management while providing internships for youth interested in natural resource management or support services careers.
We seek to focus our work with partners to leverage our resources and realize maximum efficiencies in our efforts. In addition, with nearly one-third of our workforce eligible for retirement in the next several years, developing a talent pipeline is critical to the future of DOI and its mission. BLM Alaska strives to engage all Alaska residents, intern and visitors in public land stewardship. We are seeking to expand the diverse pool of interns interested in public land natural resource management or support services careers. BLM Alaska also seeks to engage communities near BLM lands, who subsist and rely on public lands every day.
As funding allows, BLM Alaska will develop project description for intern service and partner-supported intern work opportunities on BLM managed public lands. BLM Alaska will mentor individuals with work experience for periods varying from a few days for specific field projects up to several months or longer. Inters can learn about the help administer public lands uses and natural resources involving but not limited to: cultural and natural resources; recreation management; visitor and intern education; interpretive services; communications and outreach; wildlife; fisheries; support services, among others. This program will provide opportunities for individuals aged 16-35 to help complete the field level tasks associated with accomplishing performance measures, and to provide them with opportunities to gain hands-on land management work experience.
