Grant Description
Continue snowy plover recovery tasks as identified in the Western Snowy Plover Recovery Plan (USFWS 2007) and the Oregon Conservation Program for the Western Snowy Plover (ODFW 1994), as well as to evaluate results of predator control activities on snowy plover reproductive success. Field objectives include daily monitoring of the abundance and distribution of snowy plovers along the Oregon coast; locating nests and erecting predator exclosures around nests to minimize nest failure due to predation and human disturbance as needed; determine nesting success; monitor chick broods to determine movements and fledging success; assist Federal and State management agencies with signs and ropes, as requested, to direct people away from seasonally closed areas; alert predator management personnel to plover breeding and observed predator activities to increase effectiveness of the program; and provide information to cooperators and the public during the field season as time allows.
