BLM OR/WA - San Juan Islands Terrestrial Managers Partnership: The San Juan Islands Terrestrial Land Managers Working group began as a process initiated by then 2011 Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar to commit Department of the Interior Agencies working within the San Juan Islands to work towards a deepening of the ongoing collective conservation efforts with local partners and agencies for the San Juan Islands. Most recently, 2015, the San Juan County Council initiated a letter to the present Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewel requesting her support towards the continuation of this Conservation initiative in the San Juan Islands. Department of Interior Secretary Jewel enthusiastically responded and requested the Department of the Interior Agencies working within the San Juan Islands to continue their work towards collective conservation efforts with local partners and agencies for the San Juan Islands. This collective partnership with federal, state and local agencies along with a host of non-profit partners is currently working towards a unified eco-system approach and transboundary perspective towards large scale conservation, education, restoration and protection. This works includes engaging local youth corps, interpretation, informational products, coordination, facilitation and special events.
