BLM WY Genetic Analysis of Wild Horse and Burro Hair Samples (CESU): The Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming State Office, intends to award a cooperative agreement with Texas A and M University to analyze measures of genetic variability in wild horses and burros through the collection and analysis of DNA in order to determine the current genetic status of wild horse and burro herds across the western United States. These measures include: level of polymorphism, individual heterozygosity and the effective number of alleles. The anticipated length of the project is a five year period. The BLM will consider continued funding for the project upon (a) the recipient showing progress satisfactory to the BLM toward program goals and the determination by the BLM that continuation of the program would be in the best interest of the Government or (b) the availability of funds.
