Building Relevance for the National Wildlife Refuge System: The National Wildlife Refuge Association proposes to work with the National Wildlife Refuge System through a Cooperative Agreement to invest $951,000 in planning, community outreach and program delivery in six Urban Refuge initiatives.
These Refuges include: Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge Denver, CO; Valle d Oro National Wildlife Refuge Albuquerque, NM; Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge New Orleans, LA; Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Detroit, MI; John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum Philadelphia, PA; A.R.M. Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge West Palm Beach, FL.
These refuges have been selected because each Refuge s Urban Proposal showed strong promise, but each proposal fell short of the standard set by San Diego and Tualatin NWRs. The Refuge Association will work with each Refuge to develop a vision, flesh out programmatic goals and objectives, source partners to assist the Refuge in implementing their vision, and work to increase the capacity and sophistication of the Refuge Friends Group.
