CESU - Student Outreach in Geoarchaeology on Public Lands: This is a youth initiative project to connect minority and college students to careers in natural resources, science and archaeology using BLM field sites and partner facilities. The program will engage students in projects to understand the geologic and cultural resources of North Central New Mexico (NM) in the Rio Puerco Field Office and other locations in NM as projects arise. Modules would be created to teach core concepts in goelogy and archaeology in the field and laboratory to address research questions regarding local natural and cultural resources. Public lands will be used to sample materials, monitor environmental conditions and to connect these observations to nearby archaeological sites. The project will create information that will assist the BLM in its mission to preserve, protect and manage archaeological and heritage resources. The project will be open to CESU partner institutions.
