Centennial Cadet Scholars Program - CHYO: Master Agreement Number P16AC00020 was entered into by and between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, (NPS), and Greening Youth Foundation, for the purpose of working with diverse, under-served and underrepresented children, youth and young adults in an effort to develop and nurture enthusiastic and responsible environmental stewards. This is a continuation of the existing task agreement P16AC00012 to add additional funds for continuation of the project. The objective of this Task Agreement is to recruit five interns through the Greening Youth Foundation to serve as Cadet Scholars who will advance the mission of the Col. Charles Young Historic site by providing research on Young's travels and locations during his entire life span. This information will be used to connect visitors (which include children, adults, and families) to the legacy of Col. Charles Young and his work as a Buffalo Soldier. The chief goal of this internship will be completed by utilizing primary research and developing various themed tours of the Charles Young home that will be able to reach all visitors to the site. The Cadet Scholars will also explore what took place in the life of Col. Charles Young from 1864-1922, and they will interpret those findings to the public using walking tours, illustrated talks, and social media.
