- Grant Description
- The USAID Peru Mission will support a new program to bring citizens closer to government and demonstrate that democracy can "deliver the goods". The goal of the program is to strengthen civil society's participation in local government decision-making processes and in the constructive oversight of government performance. A specific emphasis will be placed on ensuring that citizens see the benefits of increased revenues from the extractive sector and to strengthen the role of women to participate actively in the oversight and in the articulation of community needs in areas impacted by extractive industries. An award will be made to a Peruvian organization, or a coalition of organizations, with a sophisticated understanding of the issues and interests at stake, as well as a strong presence in the program's eight target departments: Ancash, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Junín, Loreto, San Martin, and Ucayali.
