- Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply. Public/State Controlled Institution of Higher Education and Private Institution of Higher Education; Hispanic-serving Institution; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs); Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; The eligible minority-serving institutions include medical, dental, nursing, or pharmacy schools accredited to award master s and doctoral graduate degrees; or research institutions with graduate education programs that have ongoing clinical research and clinical research training programs; The eligible institution must serve a majority of students from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences (e.g. African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders) comprising a majority (more than 50 percent) of the institution s enrollment; The institution must demonstrate a commitment to provide sustained leadership and dedicated faculty time for the development and implementation of the program; The participating institution(s) must have well-established clinical research programs and qualified faculty in curriculum development and implementation, and in program evaluation to serve as faculty for the program; The institution must have a pool of highly trained and experienced faculty investigators with a productive track record in clinical and translational research, and who have the commitment and capability to provide mentoring and career development guidance to promising candidates who aspire to become independent clinician scientists; The sponsoring institution must be committed to supporting the program by providing office, laboratory, or clinical space, personnel, equipment and other educational resources essential for a the program s success. The institution must also allow the necessary release time for the Phase I candidates participation, and with a minimum 75% effort requirement for Phase II candidates. A statement must be included in the application verifying eligibility as a minority institution.

- The National Center for Research Resources joins National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institute on Aging, National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in inviting minority institutions with professional schools offering doctoral degrees in one or more health care disciplines to apply for a Clinical Research Education and Career Development (CRECD) grant. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is intended to encourage both current CRECD awardee institutions in the final year of funding and eligible institutions that have not received previous CRECD award to apply. These awards are intended to support development and implementation of curriculum-dependent programs in minority institutions to train selected doctoral and postdoctoral candidates in clinical research leading to a Master of Science in Clinical Research or Master of Public Health in a clinically relevant area. A successful program will result in an accredited master's degree program to produce trained clinical researchers who can become part of translational and/or patient-oriented research projects.
