Collaborative Studies on Systems Biology of Complex Phenotypes (R01): -Purpose. The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) invites applications for collaborative research projects that use systems biology approaches to investigate the mechanisms that underlie genetic determination of complex phenotypes. These projects will combine computational modeling approaches and experimental validation of predictive models. It is expected that a team of at least two principal investigators (PIs), one with expertise in systems biology and the other with expertise in the genetics of humans or model organisms, will apply for funding under this FOA. Applications from a single investigator or that propose solely data production and accumulation will be considered non-responsive and will not be reviewed. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIGMS intends to award up to $1.6 million in of FY 2008 to fund 3-4 new grants in response to this FOA. PIs may request a project period of up to four years and a budget of up to $250,000 in direct costs in each year, plus applicable facilities and administrative costs.
