Assistance will be provided only to the South Africa National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS). No other applications are solicited. NHLS is the most appropriate and qualified agency to conduct the activities specified under this cooperative agreement.
Grant Description
The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to address the following public health practice goal among others:1. To conduct on a national level, public health surveillance and epidemiological assessments on issues affecting disease, premature death, and quality of life; develop high quality laboratory systems and diagnostic capacity; and, implement evidence-based public health programs on the following: infectious diseases with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS (not limited to blood safety, injection safety, infection control, and medical waste management), Malaria, Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases, Zoonotic diseases, Neglected Tropical Diseases, Tuberculosis, Influenza and other diseases with pandemic potential as well as Emergency Preparedness and Response, Environmental Health issues, Chronic Diseases, Maternal and Child Health, Reproductive Health, Public Health Preparedness, Bio-safety, and Injury Control and Prevention
