Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Chesapeake Watershed CESU: The U.S. Geological Survey, Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research that examines the impacts of ambient noise on the ability of invasive Asian carp to detect and respond to certain sounds. This research is for expert participation in on-going research studying the use of sound to repel, attract, and herd (i.e., control) invasive Asian carp. CERC has conducted research on Asian carp for more than a decade, leading research initiatives in the use of state-of-the-art technologies. Recently, underwater sound has been considered as a potential method for Asian carp control and CERC has been on the forefront in researching this new method. As these technologies are further developed and refined, this will be deployed into the natural environment. This task is to solicit expert researchers in assisting with investigating how Asian carp may respond to sounds in natural environments.
