Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Colorado Plateau CESU: The US Geological Survey, John Wesley Powell Center for Analysis and Synthesis, is offering a funding opportunity to model physical and biogeochemical controls and assessment of the cumulative effects for water quality for the nation⿿s streams and rivers. By acknowledging the importance of ⿿hydrologic exchange zones⿝ this project will: (1) assemble critical new hydrogeomorphic data for the nation⿿s streams and rivers from disparate sources, (2) process the data for use in the National Hydrography Dataset (NHDPlus) to improve the accuracy of many federal and academic models of riverine transport for U.S. streams and rivers, (3) incorporate the improved dataset in a river corridor transport model (NEXSS) that is physically-based but parsimonious enough to fully account for hydrologic exchange zones in a nationwide river corridor transport analysis, and (4) use modeling results to identify physical and biogeochemical controls, assess cumulative effects, and forecast outcomes for changing water quality at the scale of the nation.
