Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Great Lakes Northern Forests CESU: USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research in understanding the global vulnerability of tidal saline wetlands to accelerations in sea-level rise (SLR) remains elusive. Key determinants of tidal saline wetland vulnerability, and of considerable diagnostic value, are trends in wetland surface elevation change and accretion. Advanced considerably by USGS scientists and deployed globally, the Surface Elevation Table (surface elevation) and Marker Horizon (surface accretion) (SET-MH) methodology generates powerful empirical data for investigating coastal wetland response to SLR. The USGS has collected tidal saline wetland surface elevation change and accretion data and environmental covariates at sites around the world which is available to provide the most rigorous possible statistical and modeling investigation of the connection between tidal saline wetland resiliency and response to changes in sea level.
