Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Great Plains CESU: The U.S. Geological Survey¿s Alaska Science Center is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research focused on climate driven co-evolutionary dynamics among small mammals and parasites distributed through the Arctic. This research is critical for informing management agencies within Alaska and elsewhere as to biodiversity trajectories within a warming Arctic climate regime. Considerable preliminary data exists based on previous funded research efforts attesting to hybridization dynamics occurring across the boreal forest-Arctic tundra ecotone in northern Alaska, between closely related shrew species. The history of diversification of these host shrew species includes divergent ecological habitat affinities and isolation-reconnection dynamics associated with sea-level changes through the biogeographic province of Beringia.
