Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Gulf Coast CESU: The USGS Wetland and Aquatic Science Center, Gainesville, Florida is offering a funding opportunity for research investigating population dynamics of the Florida apple snail (Pomacea paludosa). This species is a critical component of central and south Florida wetland (e.g. Everglades) food webs, and its population dynamics are directly and indirectly influenced by wetland restoration and water management. Besides being critical prey for endangered snail kites (Rostrhamus sociabilis), P. paludosa dominates the diet of limpkins (Aramus guarana) and serves as prey for aquatic insects, crayfishes, turtles, and fishes.
