Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Rocky Mountain CESU: The National Geospatial Program Office of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a Cooperative Agreement to one member university of the Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CESU) Program. The project is titled "The Wyoming GeoLibrary". The main objective of the GeoLibrary is to provide an organized catalog of Wyomings geospatial data assets. The Library contains base cartographic data as well as scientific data with geospatial attributes. The National Geospatial Program Office (NGPO) has a mission to inventory the states geospatial data holdings (from the local level up) in an effort to identify data "gaps" for the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and to ascertain if the data is appropriate for use in The National Map. The GeoLibrary, as it becomes more populated, will provide an inventory tool for the NSDI for the state of Wyoming, as well as The National Map. The priority project under the Department of Interiors Healthy Lands Initiative is the Wyoming Land Conservation Initiative (WLCI). This multi-agency, multi-discipline project is studying the impacts of the energy development and wildlife interface in the Green River Basin of southwest Wyoming in an attempt by land and resource management agencies to facilitate a world class energy development program while maintaining a world class wildlife population. One of the tasks in this project is the development of a science data catalog by the USGS. The science data catalog will depend heavily on the Wyoming GeoLibrary for the discovery and access of data relative to the science being generated during the project. The GeoLibrary was developed along with a web interface to allow discovery and access to Wyoming geospatial data and the ability to publish metadata. Elements to be accomplished through this Cooperative Agreement: ►education of and assistance to researchers and the general user community in the following: . using the system to discover available datasets . publishing data to the GeoLibrary . maintaining and updating metadata records . the benefits of participation ►population of the GeoLibrary with participating organizations data and metadata records by either or both: . assistance to the participating organization . directly entering the data/metadata into the system for the participating organization The Library is published to the Geospatial One-Stop (GOS), an e-government initiative, allowing the information to be harvested by the geospatial community at large. This project will supplement and add perspective to the USGS mission of providing the nation with geospatial information that can be used to better manage the nations lands. Assistance to resource managers and the public relates directly to this goal and the creation and maintenance of effective partnerships among federal agencies and universities to share resources and expertise is inherent in the process.
