Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Rocky Mountain CESU: The US Geological Survey, Fort Collins Science Center, is offering a funding opportunity to catalyze assessment and synthesis of the effects of disturbance and global change across western mountain areas, focusing specifically on western national parks, including Rocky Mountain National Park. Specific research questions addressed are: 1. How do warming and N deposition influence soil microbes and food webs? 2. How are lake warming trends along with nitrogen and phosphorus (from dust) deposition influencing alpine lake productivity, food webs, and trophic status? 3. How are montane and subalpine forests responding to warming, disturbance, and different forest management strategies? 4. How does snow persistence at different mountain elevation zones influence the production of stream flow across the semi-arid western U.S.?
