Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit (CESU), Rocky Mountain CESU: The purpose of the Western Ecological Research Center (WERC) funding opportunity is to determine climatic and edaphic correlates of tree mortality rates in the western U.S. and to determine mechanisms driving these correlations. WERC conducts research in support of natural resources management in California and Nevada. WERC produces and disseminates scientific information needed for decision-making in collaboration with Federal and State land management agencies, Native American tribes, academic institutions and organizations. For over a decade, WERC has funded projects that advance the Center in producing strong and unbiased scientific information necessary for decision making. WERC will continue to support such projects. A. Fiscal Year 2007 Funding A total of $25,000 is available for the FY 2007/2008 program. The project will be funded for one year from the point of award. Award notification will be made on or about May 1, 2007. Project work must commence by May 15, 2007.
