Cooperative Ecosystems Studies Unit, Californian CESU: The Western Region Coastal and Marine Geology Program (WCMG) of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a cooperative agreement opportunity to universities that have the ability to conduct research in topics that meet the goals of the Coastal and Marine Geology Program. WCMG primarily conducts research along the continental shelves, nearshore, beach, estuaries, rivers and lakes of the western United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, and the Trust Territories. Current research interests of WCMG include (but are not limited to) sediment transport, seafloor mapping and benthic habitat analyses, coral reef studies, hazards (earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, coastal erosion), ocean currents and pollution, coastal watersheds, oil and gas seepages, gas hydtrates, marine minerals, and estuarine evolution. For more information about WCMG, refer to http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/. For a successful cooperative agreement, the partner University must have complementary research interests and be able to address these and other potential research topics.
