Creating Safer States: Through Building Capacity for Injury & Violence Prevention: In the United States, nearly 192,900 people die from injuries and violence each year that is approximately 1 person every 3 minutes. More than 3 million people are hospitalized and 27 million people treated in emergency rooms as a result of injuries and violence each year. Injuries and violence are so common that we often accept them as just part of life. To address IVP, CDC supports programmatic, policy, communication and evaluation activities to build capacity for injury and violence expertise at the state, local and community levels to prevent related morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to contribute to the prevention of injuries and violence by strengthening Injury and Violence Prevention (IVP) public health infrastructure and capacity in State Health Departments (SHD). Applicant activities are intended to demonstrate measurable progress towards the following outcomes in state and territorial health departments: 1) Increased capacity to prevent IVP in both CDC Core SVIPP funded and non-funded states 2) Strengthened partner networks supporting SHD that will advance the following: a. Increased development of IVP workforce competencies b.Increased IVP surveillance c.Increased capacity to select, implement, and evaluate the best available IVP evidence-based prevention strategies 3)Improved IVP capacity and infrastructure in states that received STAT visits a. Implementation of TA plan follow-up activities and evaluation 4)Increased development of the Striving to Reduce Youth Violence Everywhere (STRYVE) Action Council and distribution and implementation of youth violence technical package 5) Increased development and advancement of an IVP network and agenda that enhances broad base support for IVP capacity and infrastructure
