DOD Peer Reviewed Medical Investigator-Initiated Research Award: The PRMRP Investigator-Initiated Research Award (IIRA) mechanism was first offered in FY99. Since then, 1850 Investigator-Initiated Research Award proposals have been received, and 219 have been recommended for funding. This award supports research that makes an important contribution to research and/or patient care in one of the FY08 PRMRP topic areas. All proposals must be responsive to the health care needs of the Armed Forces and Family members, the U.S. Veteran population, and the general public. Research projects that support the development or validation of evidence-based clinical policy or guidelines are encouraged. Proposals must include preliminary data relevant to the topic area and the proposed project. This award may not be used to conduct clinical trials. Principal Investigators (PIs) seeking funding for a clinical trial should apply to the FY08 PRMRP Clinical Trial Award mechanism.
