DS Refractory Period, Determination of Delta Smelt spawning behavior and microhabitat: For life cycle modeling of Delta Smelt, there is a critical gap in knowledge about the refractory period (days of recovery) between batch spawns, the most sensitive stage in the lifecycle. The proposed work will provide information needed to make management decisions consistent with the adaptive management approach and to implement recovery strategies for Delta Smelt. The project will help the Service in striking a regulatory balance by making informed, science based management decisions that contribute to the recovery of the species. The project directly applies the Serviceâ¿¿s mission to work with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The project supports the Department of Interiorâ¿¿s mission by managing the Nation's natural resources and providing scientific information about those resources.
