Deep Vein Thrombosis and Venous Disease (R01): -Purpose. The goal of this FOA is to solicit novel research projects that would improve the understanding of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and venous disease. Applications that propose collaboration between basic and clinical investigators are strongly encouraged. The program will promote interactions and resource sharing among the award recipients and with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Thrombosis and Hemostasis program to maximize the research efforts. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NHLBI intends to commit up to a total of $5.0 million in FY2008 to support 6 to 8 meritorious projects that are responsive to this FOA. An applicant may request a project period of up to five years and a budget for direct costs not to exceed to $499,000 per year. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
