Department of Defense (DoD) Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) Idea Development Award: The Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) Idea Development Award supports innovative, high-impact approaches to prostate cancer research. The PCRP seeks proposals from all areas of laboratory, preclinical, behavioral, and epidemiological research that are centered on the Fiscal Year 2007 (FY07) PCRP areas of programmatic interest; these areas are described in detail in Section III. Clinical trials will be accepted for this mechanism only if they are related to survivorship, diet, or quality of life and are no greater than minimal risk in accordance with Title 45 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 46, Section 102 (45 CFR 46.102). Such trials must have a clinical coordinator who has sufficient time dedicated to the project to carry out the record keeping, coordination, and/or other administrative duties the project entails. Important aspects of the Idea Development Award are as follows:1. Innovation: Innovation is a significant feature of the Idea Development Award. It is the responsibility of the PI to clearly and explicitly articulate how the proposed research is innovative. Proposals may be innovative in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, the following. This list is intended to serve as a foundation on which to frame and present the innovative features of the proposal:. Study concept - investigation of a novel idea and/or unique research question that has the potential to advance the field of prostate cancer research in a significant way.. Research method or technology - use of novel research methods or new technologies to address a research question that could not be addressed using conventional methods/techniques.. Adaptations of existing methods or technologies - application or adaptation of existing methods or technologies for research or clinical purposes that are fundamentally different from those originally intended, and/or for use in novel research or clinical purposes.Conversely, research that is an extension or an incremental advance upon published data is not innovative, and will not be considered for funding under this mechanism.2. Impact: Research that has high impact may significantly advance current methods, concepts, prevention, detection, diagnosis, or treatment of prostate cancer. It is the responsibility of the PI to clearly and explicitly articulate the impact the proposed research may have on the field of prostate cancer research.3. Preliminary Data: All Idea Development Award proposals must include preliminary data relevant to prostate cancer research and the proposed project.
