Desert Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Lion Monitoring and Management at Kofa NWR, Feral Burro Inventory and Management: This is a single source award for the Arizona Game and Fish Department to: 1) conduct aerial survey flights for desert bighorn sheep within and near Kofa National Wildlife Refuge (NWR); 2) capture and radio-collar desert bighorn sheep, refurbish and replace radio-collars on both desert bighorn sheep and mountain lions within and near Kofa NWR; 3) conduct periodic aerial checks of remote critical desert bighorn sheep water sources on Kofa NWR; and 4) conduct aerial feral burro surveys within and near the Cibola-Trigo Herd Management Area (HMA) including Yuma Proving Ground, Imperial and Cibola NWRs, and surrounding areas. These actions will assist the Service in meeting the actions identified in the Investigative Report and Recommendations for the Kofa Bighorn Sheep Herd (2007), the actions identified in the Environmental Assessment for Limiting Mountain Lion Predation on Desert Bighorn Sheep, goals and objectives identified for the management of desert bighorn sheep in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and Wilderness and New Water Mountains Wilderness Interagency Management Plan and Environmental Assessment, and the Cibola-Trigo Herd Management Area Plan.
