The National Park Service has always enjoyed the favor of the American people. Parks have long been seen as critical to our nation as places for recreation, reflection, inspiration and conservation, but today the National Park Service is called to a more complex existence as it looks to create greater connections to what makes us uniquely American. Our cultural existence and heritage as human beings on this land is reflected in the sites protected by this great nation. Sites and stories, such as that of C'sar Chvez, connect and deepen our understanding of our natural and cultural heritage. They go beyond the surface of place to include not only the easy stories but also the difficult issues of our nation - past, present and future. Interpretation in the National Park Service's second century must ensure that ALL audiences have multiple opportunities for participatory, transformative experiences that promote stewardship and relevant, inclusive, and active learning. This project is designed to engage new audiences; connect teachers and students to the park as a venue for learning; bring resources into the classroom; and increase content knowledge about the life and legacy of C'sar Chvez, whose method of non-violent protest brought international attention to the working conditions of farm laborers.
