Discovery of Novel Epigenetic Marks in Mammalian Cells (R21): -Purpose. The National Institutes of Health invites applications that propose to discover novel pathways of stable, differential silencing and activation of gene expression in eukaryotic organisms that may be applicable to human disease pathogenesis. A companion announcement using the R01 mechanism (RFA-RM-07-015), is focused on establishment and validation of epigenetic marks in mammalian cells. In the long term, advances in these areas will enhance our ability to investigate, diagnose and ameliorate human disease with a significant epigenetic component. -Mechanism of Support. The R21 Exploratory/Developmental Grant mechanism will be used for this FOA, which runs in parallel with RFA-RM-07-015 that solicits applications using the R01 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards.
