Drought Preparedness and Mitigation Program in South and Southeast Asia: USAID/DCHA/OFDAs mandate is to save lives, alleviate human suffering and reduce the economic impact of natural and human-caused disasters worldwide. As part of its Asia regional strategy, USAID/OFDA seeks to increase adoption of mitigation measures in countries at greatest risk of natural and human-caused disasters. Building on the foundation already laid in South and Southeast Asia via the emergency drought programs it has funded, USAID/OFDA aims to support sustainable, low-tech, community-based drought preparedness and mitigation programs. In order to achieve this goal, USAID/OFDA is soliciting applications to undertake a drought preparedness and mitigation program in South and Southeast Asia. Potential countries for program implementation may include, but are not limited to, Cambodia, East Timor, India, Laos, Pakistan and Vietnam. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to implement activities in more than one country. USAID/DCHA/OFDA plans to award one or multiple cooperative agreements to achieve this aim. Program duration will be up to three years, though activities achieving measurable results, which can be fully implemented in a shorter period of time, are encouraged.
