Drug Abuse Prevention Intervention Research (R01): -Purpose The goals of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) are to encourage investigations of cognitive, behavioral, and social processes as they relate to: 1) the development of novel drug abuse prevention approaches; 2) the efficacy and effectiveness of newly developed and/or modified prevention programs; 3) the processes associated with the selection, adoption, adaptation, implementation, sustainability, and financing of empirically validated interventions; and 4) methodologies appropriate for studying complex aspects of prevention science. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with FOAs of identical scientific scope, PA-06-317 and PA-06-318, that solicit applications under the Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) and Small Research Grant (R03) award mechanisms, respectively. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
