Grant Description: Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), encourages exploratory research on the role of nutrition in cancer prevention. Specifically, this FOA seeks to promote cancer prevention research to identify and characterize molecular targets for bioactive food components. For the purpose of this FOA, a bioactive food component is defined as a dietary constituent that has a health benefit by altering one or more cellular processes when provided in quantities over and beyond that needed for basic nutrition. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards.
