- Grant Description
- BJA announces the availability of grants to support the FY 2004 Tribal Courts Assistance Program, which is made possible under Title II, Section 201 of the Indian Tribal Justice Technical and Legal Assistance Act of 2000. These grants will be determined through a competitive application process. There are three separate categories in which federally recognized tribes may apply; however, only one application may be submitted by a tribal government. If more than one application is submitted, all applications associated with that tribe will be removed from BJA?s competitive review process and the tribe will be deemed ineligible to receive any award. In order to assure the most equitable competition among tribal governments, BJA is again focusing its award structure around the Indian resident or service populations that tribes serve. For current federal information, including a list of federally recognized tribes and the U.S. 2000 Census tribal population figures that addresses off-reservation trust lands comprising Indian Country, as defined in 18 USC 1151, please visit the National Tribal Justice Resource Center?s website at www.ntjrc.org or call their toll free hotline, 1-877-97NTJRC. This information may also be found on OJP?s website by clicking on the selection button for American Indian Alaska Native Affairs. (Note: The National Tribal Justice Resource Center is not responsible for the accuracy of these figures but simply has made it available for your convenience.)
