Feasibility of Delivering New Adolescent Vaccines in Complementary Health Care Settings: NIP is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance our understanding of the feasibility and acceptability of providing adolescent vaccines in complementary health care settings, focusing on the first generation of new adolescent vaccines (meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4), vaccines for pertussis (Tdap), human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, and herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV-2). Because adolescents frequently do not use a primary medical home for receipt of preventive health services, complementary settings may be necessary to deliver immunization services to this population. Complementary health care settings include public health clinics, non-profit community based health centers, school-based clinics, teen clinics, family planning clinics, STD clinics, emergency departments, pharmacies, and obstetrician/gynecology offices. This project would consist of focus groups, surveys, and interviews of adolescents, parents of adolescents, and providers who serve adolescents within the complementary health care setting, as well as analysis of existing datasets and on-site data collection to estimate the relative frequency with which adolescents receive health care services in traditional vs complementary settings and to assess the capacity to deliver vaccines in these settings. Purchase and administration of vaccine is prohibited as part of this project. Applications must address the research objectives listed in this RFA. Applications that fail to address the research objectives will be considered non-responsive. Responsiveness review will be conducted by the Scientific Program Administrator (SPA), NIP.
