Grant Description
The Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) grant funding is authorized by Section 4126 of SAFETEA-LU. This is a discretionary grant program that provides funding for States and the District of Columbia to deploy, operate, and maintain elements of their CVISN programs, including commercial vehicle, commercial driver, and carrier-specific information systems and networks. The agency in each State and the District of Columbia that is designated as the primary agency responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of CVISN-related systems is eligible to apply for grant funding. The CVISN Deployment Grant program is subject to the availability of funds. The expected level of funding for CVISN in FY 2010 is $25,000,000. The availability of funding is subject to Congressional appropriations. Grants will be distributed on a "first-come first-served" basis. FMCSA will continue to accept CVISN project plans after the 12/01/09 deadline, if funds are available. No project plans will be accepted after 07/01/10. FMCSA will notify potential grant recipients if Congressional action changes any aspect of the CVISN Grant program (e.g., eligibility, funding ceiling, match requirements) during the course of FY 2010.
