Geographic Information System (mapping) Program at Joshua Tree National Park: A.Project Goals The goal of this project is to continue the mapping program that has created working maps of Joshua Tree National Park. B.Project Objectives Assistance with cultural and endangered species compliance through the creation of project documents that clarify Areas of Potential Effect, disturbance limits and planned construction footprint Work with engineering drawings and documents to overlay park resources in order to document possible effects that projects have on natural and cultural resources Geographic Information System (GIS) modeling scenarios to create options and alternatives for projects Analysis of potential degradation of natural and cultural resources based on potential project impacts Maintain the parks GIS database by ensuring the park stays current with software, and shape files, maintaining necessary licenses and certifications, creating cartographic products for Special Use Permits, research permits, and search and rescue incidents. Develop new databases to include a directional sign GIS layer with photos and assist with the development of long term facility enhancements at Cottonwood, definition of Wilderness boundaries, and the fencing projects. All the listed activities will be coordinated with associated divisions. Assist with the layout and creation of publications that involve mapping.
