Grant Description: The GTE program supports fundamental research on geotechnical aspects of civil infrastructure, such as foundation engineering, site characterization, underground construction, tunneling, drilling, and mining engineering. Also included is research on geoenvironmental engineering, geotechnical earthquake engineering that does not involve the use of George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) facilities, and geohazards such as tsunamis, landslides, mudslides and debris flows, scour, and erosion. Emphasis is on issues of sustainability and resilience.
