Grant Description
This is a Request for Information (RFI); not a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). DOE is seeking comments from the geothermal community (industry, academia, etc.) to assist in the development of a possible FOA, acquisition, or other procurement option. Information gathered from this RFI may be used to develop a funding vehicle created to help define challenges in geothermal education, workforce development, and retention. Efforts will focus on institute program activities affiliated with development and retention of geothermal-specific competencies; development of teaming opportunities with universities and industry for education programs; and industry-sponsored student competitions focusing on critical technological challenges for EGS. Ideas may include, but are not limited to, Enhanced Geothermal Systems curriculum; educational scholarship programs; vocational training; university cooperative education and professional internship programs; student newspaper competitions on critical technological challenges; K-12 education modules; pilot education programs; and innovative education models for post-undergraduate education. Information gathered from this RFI will be used by DOE for internal planning and decision making purposes, and will not be released to the general public. DOE will not pay for information provided under this RFI, and there is no guarantee that EGS Technologies Validation Site(s) will be supported as a result of this RFI. Comments in response to this RFI must be provided to the DOE Golden Field Office as an attachment to an e-mail message to RFI-09GO39004@go.doe.gov. Comments must be provided no later than 11:59 p.m., Eastern Time, on January 30, 2009. All documents providing comments in response to this RFI must be delivered electronically to the indicated e-mail address above, preferably using Microsoft Word (.doc) or Portable Document Format (.pdf). DOE requires that responses to the RFI be no more than 10 pages, no greater than 5MB in file size, with 1 inch margins, single spaced, and a minimum of 11 pt font. Questions regarding RFI content should be submitted through the Submit Question feature of the DOE Interactive Procurement System (IIPS) at http://e-center.doe.gov at the location of this numbered RFI. The DOE Golden Office reserves the right not to reply to any or all comments or questions submitted under this RFI.
