Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative: The purpose is to partner in a cooperative effort to enhance private grazing land sustainability, and support grazing land educational activities to landowners and other agricultural stakeholders in Georgia. NRCS in cooperation with the applicant(s) will be able to reach landowners state-wide in order to promote the proper use of grazing lands. The applicant(s) will have knowledge of technical needs, expertise, and the appropriate contacts to assure involvement by diverse constituents associated with private grazing land issues throughout Georgia. Recipients of technical and financial assistance will be better equipped to manage grazing land, which will lead to improved water quality, better use of available natural resources, diminished negative impact on wildlife and other resource improvements. With the assistance of NRCS, the applicant(s) will: a. Develop collaborative efforts among forage/livestock producers and agricultural groups in Georgia to provide demonstration of beneficial management practices. b. Provide administrative and financial support for private grazing land and forage/livestock improvement activities as described below: 1) Solicit applications from landowners and non-federal agencies for projects designed to improve forage/livestock management. 2) Evaluate applications in regard to potential grazing land benefit, and award project funds. 3) Administer funds and provide technical assistance related to funded projects. 4) Assure timely completion of proposed projects. 5) Coordinate demonstrations and educational activities of completed projects. 6) Provide for expenses of speakers and other trainers at demonstration activities. 7) Prepare publicity for the demonstration and educational activities.
