- Grant Description
- Green Heating Design: The goal of this project for the NPS is to evaluate mechanisms to reduce the carbon footprint of the Albright Training Center apartment buildings by 1) assessing the feasibility of installing solar water heating systems to heat the buildings, and 2) investigating the feasibility of installing individual heat pumps for each room. The relationship with the intern will help the NPS in meeting its goals of introducing youth to public lands and environmental issues. The goal for the intern will be the fulfillment of an academic internship that will provide knowledge and skills beyond the provisions of the classroom. Reservations System: The goal for the NPS is to improve the reservations, front office, accounting, and housekeeping tasks for the training center apartments. The intern will evaluate the current reservations system being used for efficiency apartment management (similar to that of a hotel) and make recommendations for a Property Management System that will sufficiently serve both contractors and the NPS. The relationship with the intern will also help the NPS in meeting its goals of introducing youth to public lands and environmental issues. The goal for the intern will be the fulfillment of an academic internship that will provide knowledge and skills beyond the provisions of the classroom. Specifically, the intern will learn about an arena of hospitality services - serving land management agencies - not typically covered in the education process.
